It is now Autumn…
We are so lucky to have our own little plantation of harakeke at school, that has been started!!! The 5 varieties are Ruawai, Tapoto, Potaka, Taeore and Takirikau. It will be at least 4 years before it can be harvested. It is such an asset to our school. Big thanks to Mrs Jones and the hort students who have planted it and will care for it.

Taeore is a beautiful muka variety I like to make aho from to create muka and harakeke garments.
I turn it into this… the skinny threads which goes through many processes

which is used to make stuff like….

The bigger muka threads are whenu and are joined by ” te aho tapu”
